Seeing straight

The parallel view

Here the stereo pair is left/right.  If you have a hand-held viewer such as one of these, you will be able to fuse the two images into a central, virtual, 3-D view easily, with the added benefit of some magnification.  If you are experienced in stereo viewing, or if you are able to focus your eyes far away and relax them, you may be able to fuse the two images without a viewer.  Some say that farsighted people are better at freeviewing parallel, while nearsighted people are better at freeviewing cross-eyed.  When freeviewing a parallel pair, if your central, third, virtual image is not 3-D but made up of ghostly outlines and confused background, you are crossing your eyes, so go to the cross-eyed version.
